Gala Dinner, 10 November 2011 at 7.30pm at Crowne Plaza Hotel London-St. James 45-51 Buckingham Gate, London SW1E 6AF

WHAT A NIGHT THAT WAS! Abdul, catering manager at the hotel again gave us a beautifully decorated room, the food was delicious and the buzz was fantastic. Entertainment was provided by Passamezzo, a Renaissance group and Zephyros Ensemble, 2 young and talented musicians, a violonist and a folk guitarist.

Thank you to all our generous sponsors, in particular bmi and RAM who both supplied us with return business flights to Morocco.

That was a night to remember at Med Mezze, 22 Queensway London W2 3RX, 21 September 21 Sept 2011

Prizes for the raffle :  2 nights at Villa Dinari, a gorgeous ryad outside Marrakech, worth €190, a return transfer marrakech airport-hotel in Marrakech offered by chauffeur Ali Housni (00212 671 658281) worth 400 dirhams, a beautiful bottle of Argan oil with apricot donated by House of Argan worth £20, a picture, a dinner for 2 donated by Youssef of Med Mezze

 

 

AGM of the British Moroccan Society, 13 October at 7pm, the Travellers Club, 106 Pall Mall London SW1Y 5EP.

It will be followed by a concert by Sufi players from Essaouira and Passamezzo, a Renaissance ensemble, with readings taken from a play called “From Shore to Shore” about the plight but also the amazing transformation of Cornish people taken into slavery in Morocco in the 17th century.

Henley Royal regatta : Wednesday 29 June 2011

The BMS was delighted to be able to offer this event to its members. A limited number of places and tables were available for you to extend an invitation to your colleagues, friends and clients to join you for a quintessentially English day of champagne, luxury picnic luncheon, live entertainment and Regatta Racing.

 

There was a raffle; the first prize was : 2 return flights provided by bmi and a 3 night stay in a beautiful ryad in Marrakech donated by Pureriads.
The second prize was a hand carved lamp donated by Moroccan Bazaar worth £400

WOMEN’S PORTRAITS THROUGH THE AGES : AN AFTERNOON TEA AT THE NATIONAL GALLERY WITH LYDIA BAUMAN, Saturday 11th June 2011, 2pm, meeting in the Sainsbury Wing.

This is a 1.5 – 2 hours tour offered by Lydia, an artist and official National Gallery guide, in which she will trace the changing concepts of feminine beauty and perceptions of women and their role in society in great paintings from early Renaissance to the 19th century . The talk will be followed by a delicious tea at the National Dining Rooms.

Cost is : £25 for members, £30 for non members

Our guest of honour was Vanessa Branson who talked about the Arts in Marrakech Festival (click here for more info) she organises every 2 years in Marrakech and which brings many talents from around the world as well as promotes Moroccan artists.

Entertainment was provided by Operacatz whose 2 wonderful professional singers delighted us with arias of different operas

Our guest speaker this year was Tim Mackintosh-Smith, winner of the Thomas Cook Travel Book award.

“Travels with a Tangerine” is probably Tim Mackintosh-Smith’s best known travel book on the subject.
